Shogun 2: Campaign Map Stutter

I looked around various different forums and noticed loads of people have noticed this, but I couldn't find a solution or possible fix. During an actual battle, the game couldn't be any smoother for me. But in the Campaign Map, it performs rather sluggish. I noticed the only way to improve this was to remove shadows from the graphics settings.

What if I changed it to DirectX 9? Would I be sacrificing much? (I'm using DirectX 10

With an older card it's often not a bad idea to run games with DX 9. It's not like like your card can keep up high frame rates with the quality turned up at DX 10, so you're not missing much really.

That and remember, the silicon in your card comes from 2008. It supports DX10 and DX10 had been around a fair while but that architecture was designed for quite a different gaming environment because of how long DX9 stayed as the mainstream, so whilst it may be able to push the pixels in theory the real world performance with relatively recent games might be poorer than the benchmarks might predict (i.e. you find cards that used to be slight worse are not doing a bit better because of random meeting of what games want now and the design of the card) Using DX9 minimises this at the expense of a bit of eye candy, which isn't a big deal really.

Turn off shadows and reflections (lower the water quality or something along those lines). Shadows and reflections are very resource intensive.

I was on my way here to say that is exactly what I did :pac: Great improvement. Bit of a graphical sacrifice but at the moment I'm taking gameplay over fidelity until I can afford a better graphics card. Delighted.

Try a framerate limiter. there is one in msi afterburner. limit depending on your cpu and gpu i have mine set to 40fps.

    I have a 4570k and gtx 680
