As a recent graduate is it essential to put this on your CV?
If so, I got a 3rd class Hons so how can I phrase that nicely?

Just omit it, Just Say BA/BBS what ever it is followed by hons and the title. don't include the qca, some employers will breeze over it without taking notice, unless a 2.1 is a requirement.

Some of the jobs I'm applying for I don't think it will but I just don't want to come across as having something to hide

My brother has a 2.1 masters and a 2.2 undergrad, he just mentions the title then if asked he answers. I know a friend of mine who did two subjects but has a third class when asked he answered but made a point of mentioning one of the subjects just didnt gel with him which brought down his qca but stuck with it any way! shows that even if you hate something youll stick with it!

Third class is still third class honours I think (honours) its a pass. Depends on the third level college they can classify slightly differently but its generally 1:1, 2:1 etc. I just mention the title of your course unless they request your result when applying or in an interview would you need to add it in. Whether you get a 2:1 or 2:2 I generally either add it in for the most relevant course sometimes or just add in Second Class Honours.
