"3. What documents do I need to bring with me on the day of the test?

New changes to registering a vehicle from January 2nd 2014
Be advised, in addition to the required documents mentioned below, a VRT Vehicle Purchase Details (VRTVPD) Form is now required to be completed by all persons wishing to register a vehicle

This form is a mandatory requirement and must be completed in full for each vehicle prior to arriving at the test centre for Registration. You will find a link to this form in the relevant section below."

I have my Car Reg Certificate and an up to date driving license.

You need to bring the Vehicle Registration Cert ( the logbook) and photo ID of whoever is bringing the car in for the test. Drivers Licence or Passport.

i was only asked for drivers license at the weekend when i had my NCT done, but it does indeed say you need to bring reg booklet

that's for registering a car, not for a straightforward NCT test

Photo ID is not good enough.
Must be passport or driving licence, nothing else.

Got my NCT tomorrow, and had everything ready to go (driver's licence, VRT and yeah, the car) but I've just noticed on the email I received:
This letter of confirmation is brought to the test centre on the day of your test.
I've run out of printer paper so can't bring it with me. I'll bring the booking number, and can probably access my email from there, but still. Anyone had trouble with this particular aspect?

Never been asked for the letter. They usually ask you the details of the car at the desk and then want to see the licence and VLC. If you have the email then you can show it to them on your phone screen or something but I have had at least a dozen NCTs done and never asked for the letter.

You'll be fine without the letter. Good luck with it.

Make sure your number plates are clean ,

dickhead tester ( irish ) failed me on visual due ot a bit of gunge covering the little 'IRL ' in the EU sign on the front plate which was otherwise clean , i cleaned it off there and then and the next chap ( polish lad ) passed me

( all the while commenting on what the fcuk yer man was at. )

I did spot the shortarse eyeing me loads when i walked in to register , he obviously wanted to have a bit of fun

    the sad liittle man.
