    Hey,

    Maybe a remedial question/problem.....anyway

I have an old dell laptop that I have saved a rake of photos on. It wont boot up now because it needs windows 7 disc to reboot. Am returning to Ireland next week for good and had planned to ship this home (will take 6 weeks plus)

To safeguard the photos could I remove the hard disc and carry it in my luggage or could the photos be stored elsewhere on the computer?

    Thanks

Most hard disks are easily removable, and IMHO, you'd be better off doing that and bringing it with you rather than shipping it.

No there isn't anywhere else to store pics on a laptop.

Maybe even get a live Linux CD and boot from that, use an online cloud storage provider for a backup if your pics are valuable to you.

    edit:Or burn a few DVD-R's

Some laptops can boot from a USB stick, so if yours is one (Google it) download the linux ISO and make a bootable USB key with YUMI
    or http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

Got and booted with knoppix 7 live. That works fine but all that's on the desktop is a knoppix folder, no access to the HD.

at the bottom of the screen there is a folder icon and I can access the my computer, and drives function from that. That contains just a list of found folders.....is that normal or is the HD screwed?

    Thanks again for the advice
