I think it's the pipe that goes into the inlet manifold,a little oil residue wouldn't be anything to worry about but your car must be running like a bag of spanners with a boost leak that size.

It is fairly smokey? It actually failed the NCT last week on emissions.
I've checked play in turbo spindle, changed air filter and put in dipetine.

    Could this be the problem?

Looks like the pipe from the airbox to the intake alright.
A leak there will throw the fuel mix off so could explain emissions failing.

    Black smoke ?

I would say it's not helping anyway, it would definitely explain the excessive smoke. I burst an intercooler pipe (which is essentially what this is, this pipe is an extension of the pipe coming up from the intercooler) on an old TDI golf and it was very very smokey.

The airbox would be on the other side of the intercooler and turbo, this is the pipe that connects to the pipe from the outlet side of the intercooler.

Yes, intervals black bursts of smoke when I rev it stationary, and sometimes in particular accelerating in the 2,000 rpm range while driving there is a smokey trail.

I have temporarily patched up the pipe slit with good strong bonding glue to see if this rectifies the smokiness!

If this pipe is the problem, it'll save a lot of head scratching.

I'll be surprised if it holds that pipe would be under serious pressure when on boost, there must have been a serious sound of air escaping every time you accelerated ?

Okay, i temporarily tried to seal the split and took it for a drive.

Seemed a lot quicker accelerating and no smoke.

BUT, accelerating up hill another burst of smoke,

So, I checked the pipe and saw that my botched job had come undone.

Hopefully a new one can be ordered quickly and this headache will end

Thanks for all the valued info

You will notice a massive difference in powe economy and smoke with the new pipe.

If your looking at the front of the car at the engine, is it on the left side of the engine ? I.e near the coolant bottle ?

Or is it on the opposite side at the airbox for the air filter ?
