Can you pay preliminary tax in instalments?

    Hi,

Quick question as I can't find the answer on the Revenue site. I'm a self-employed sole trader. My preliminary tax isn't due for quite a while, obviously, but I was wondering whether I can pay it as I go along over the next few months, rather than in one big lump? By that I mean can I make a deposit every so often rather than having to put it in in one payment?

    Cheers.

you can pay it as many times as you like on ROS and will be fine as long as you have an adequate amount paid before the due date

Not sure why you would want to though! the wont pay you any interest!

you can also pay be monthly DD - I've added the link below

    Absolutely you can
I pay my tax as a direct debit every month
( I can't trust myself to leave it on deposit!)

Cheers. From what citizenpain says I can pay it in once off payments right up to the due date if I want to.

I wasn't really intending on doing a direct debit this time around, as with four months left I'd prefer to just pay it in chunks as and when I get paid for other bits and pieces. But I think I'll look into setting it up for next time around.

    Ta.
