Dove Gradual Tanner Tips?

I got the Dove gradual tanner. I exfoliated before I started using it, probably not enough though. I used it for two days, and had a lovely colour from it. Then I had a shower and it nearly all came off and looked kind of patchy? Is it meant to come off so much in the shower? I assume I didn't exfoliate enough for it to be so patchy. Also, I was wanting to use it all Summer to keep a nice colour, are you supposed to exfoliate when you have it on?
    Thanks.

I only use the light version of it on my legs/feet, to lose the blue look and bring them up to the same merely snow white shade as the rest of me:p. I don't really bother with extra exfoliating like I believe you're meant to do with a proper fake tan. I just slap some on every 3rd time I shower, as experience has shown that's the best time period for maintaining just a gradual hint of colour without it getting too deep for my liking.

I use it very second day and alternate with my normal moisturiser. If I needed it to work quickly I'd use it in the morning, evening and next morning but then use every second day. I've found it excellent compared to false tans as it isn't orange and it generally doesn't streak or go patchy. I'm super pale so I only want a hint of colour to take the blue look off :)

I use the Light one. I exfoliate once, and then use it nightly for about a week, longer if I want more colour and then only use it every few nights once the colour is as dark as I want it.

I've only had issues with exfoliation once. I used the gradual tanner practically daily for a month, then used a strong exfoliator. The water in the shower ran orange and my arms were patchy where the exfoliator didn't reach. I've found since then, if I only use the gradual tanner when I need topping up, it doesn't go patchy because it doesn't build up.

I gave up on Dove as thought it was coming out too orangey and took ages to dry on me. I just tried Gentle Bronze from Cocoa Brown last night and am delighted with it- a lovely natural colour and its tinted so easy to apply
