RTE are in the process of making a new scientific based tv show that will involve getting people really drunk, and getting them to do various tasks all on film in an effort to see how alcohol effects our motor skills etc

I'm not to sure what to make of it myself, what do you all think?

    Google RTE drunk

So they're documenting a typical day in Ireland so? How boring.

This is an outrage. Is this what we pay our TV licence for? RTE are a shambles.

I have a good mind to get onto Joe Duffy about this in the morning.

Indeed. An hour of some sanctimonious, finger-wagging gobsh!tes talking down to us, spouting stereotypes, telling us how sh1te we are as a people. Typical day in the Irish media alright.

    Science me hole.

They want a load of drunken teens making arseholes out of them selves and shaming their parents...for entertainment.

    I want a Mojito:D

Sure the way they go on everyone expects us all to look like Father Jack from Father Ted...

    It does? Cheers RTE.

In fairness, these are easy watching and entertaining programmes that can be justified as you might learn something along the way. I actually don't think it sounds like a bad show.

I'd rather have my scrotum nailed to a table with a rusty nail than take part in something like this. Your drunken antics edited to make you look like the biggest tit around!

    http://www.rte.ie/tv/audienceparticipation/drunk.html

sounds good to be a documentary for one evening, but why make it a series??

bul****, sensational tv crap my guess.

They're doing a good of it already.

Myself and a few others are knocking back a shot everytime Ronaldo's name is mentioned during the USA V Portugal game on now.

Second half is gonna be a struggle.

I hope the fúcker gets sent off or taken out of it soon. :D

Watching RTE has drove me to drink in the past

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,099 ✭✭✭johndaman66

Regarding the drink driving aspect of it I'd like to see a more sort of real world scenario played out. A cross section of people given 2 units of alcohol each and then their driving and reaction times etc. judged versus when they were sober, then given 2 additional units and comparison made and 2 additional units etc etc and their quality of driving and reaction times judged each time.
I know for a fact the standard of my driving would be equally as good if not better until I have up to 5 units of alcohol on board as compared to when I'm sober. Not saying I do that on public roads or anything either

Something tells me the program wont be played out like this though. I predict that the participants will drink until legless and then their driving standards judged...we all know how that will pan out....

I'm permanently pissed. Don't know how to drive. And I don't have a TV.

What's in this for me? How much will they pay to come and film me, sitting here, pissing it up.

It'd be like a scene out of True Detective ..... :)

    great thread title

I once saw an American programme based on a similar premise. It was quite good actually, the subjects ranged from heavy drinks to a woman who have never drunk before (she got totally smashed on very little). The subjects were in a Bar in Chicago drinking and were given tests periodically, they were also tested the next day when they had hangovers. They basically drank as much as they wanted which in some cases wasn't that much.

The funny thing was one of the subjects was an English guy. When they were toting up the amount each person had drunk, he had drunk the most in the experiment but the had to add that they didn't know how much he drunk in total since they believed that after the experiment ended at 4 am he found an other bar and consumed several more drinks.

They better have one segment on buying stuff you don't really need/want/can afford on auction sites. Seems savage with the beer goggles on, then the next day you go "WTF did I want a Hermes Ford Capri for???"

    Google RTE drunk

Why doesn't RTE just televise Benefits Street and you'll see plenty of drunk people doing various tasks .....like walking in a very wobbly manner, pissing in public, picking fights, passing out. :)

Sounds good. I bet TV3 are kicking themselves that they didn't come up with this first... or is this considered public service broadcasting?
