Chances of employment after JB placement?

    Hello.

I started a Jobbridge placement last week and currently loving it. Its in IT doing general help-desk stuff, but the staff are genuinely treating me like an intern and im getting real hands-on work doing System Admin work.

Its in the Public sector though, and it just hit me that with the employee hiring freeze, what are the chances of me getting a place here after 9 months? I understand the chance is slim anyway, but I just want to know if its a 100% no, so I can start planning accordingly.

Also wondering as well if welfare will pay for exams that I am learning on the side, do they have a mechanism for that?

None what so ever. at the end of it you be given a reference about 3 months later they will have an other intern in to replace you. ( I also did my jobbridge with the public sector, who knows you could be in the same office i was at one time )

as for the exam Q question I do not know.

You will not get anything, we have had close to 30 interns in our department alone since the scheme started, none can be kept on due to the moratorium on hiring.

An IT internship might be pretty useful for getting a private sector job once you finish though. :) In fact, I'd get searching and applying once you've been there a few months!

Thats the plan. I have to borrow money for exams so I cant afford to fail, but im hoping to get the ITIL v3 foundation and the CCNA, since I desperately want to work in a NOC.

Apart from that, I know even 6 months experience would be very good. My only problem is, the work im doing is system admin stuff, 6 months experience is not enough to apply for the same job, but definitely a helpdesk role.

Have to say it shocks me the lack of research people do before starting these screened. Saying that, I think there are many positives to be gained from doing it, not least the skills you will develop and iniative shown by working for free. Best of luck op

Start looking for a new job now while you have an advantage. If you find something and have to leave the jobbridge nobody will think less of you and you'll have a bit more money in your pocket.

Think less of me? I would be out like a flash! They would probably understand, since they are all on around 40k+. I want to give it 6 months for the experience and then I will start looking. I have a ITIL and CCNA book on its way so I have that as a goal as well.
