You're in the World Cup , there's 10 mins left and you are hanging on to a 1-0 lead. You're tired and you get a slight bang.

Instead of getting back up and helping your team mates and your country. You stay on the ground and have to be stretchered off, then get the magic sponge and wait to be let back in the game.

All this time , 2-3 mins your team mates are down to 10 men while you are on the sidelines with a non existent injury.

What's the mentality of these players that are happy to put their countries advancement in the World Cup competition in jeopardy so that they can be attended to over a non existent / minor knock ?

Its all to do with their boot sponsors. They pay them off big style to do this. Camera zooms in on them while they are treated and hence their the camera on their boots. I think nike said it made them a potential 10million in sales using this clear ploy at the last world cup. Looks like its really gone into overtime at this one. For shame. I dont see a solution unless football boots are bammed outright.

Nigeria are a disgrace of a team. Hope Argentina hammer them and Iran progress

They benefit from it in most cases...how many of the world cup games so far have had a minute or so of added time taken up by 'injuries' only for the ref to blow the whistle at the time shown on the board?

Can you link where Nike said this? Mental if true but I simply don't believe it.

Don't think it takes most injuries 2-3 minutes, even 20-30 seconds. What might be costly if it's a defender going off before a corner or free-kick.

the injury might stop a quickly taken freekick or let players get back and organised or break momentum, all sorts of potential advantages.

Still can't understand how injuries in injury time don't add time, pretty ridiculous really.

When it comes down to it I don't think that anything that actually requires medical attention would allow someone to play on. If getting treatment meant a player had to leave the pitch it would keep them on their feet and keep the game flowing a lot more.

All time added on is well wrote if the mark in reality. It's supposed to be 30 sec per goal and substitution, with all time for injury related stoppages added on. Next time you watch a half of footie open the time on your phone and turn it on for every injury from whistle to whistle and note goals and substitutions. The actual time added is rarely even close

The point I'm making is that you see players get a slight knock and instead of getting up quickly and helping their team they are happy to be stretchered off and leave their team a man down .

Compare that with Gaelic , hurling or rugby where we have seen players with broken arms get up and get into the defensive line to make a tackle rather than let their team down.

All down to wasting a minute or so, with a few minutes to go wasting a minute for treatment and playing on with 10 men for a minute is seen as a decent trade. In rugby the clock is stopped so timewasting doesn't help. In gah the refs will play on until its a draw (if its close) either way so its a bit irrelevant.

But if you are 1-0 down theres not much point in wasting time ?? Yet you still see it happening.

but you said "You're in the World Cup , there's 10 mins left and you are hanging on to a 1-0 lead. You're tired and you get a slight bang. "

Its happening in both senarios, makes a little bit of sense if you are hanging on to a lead but none if you are behind, it also happens early in games when wasting time is of no benefit to anyone but your team is down to ten men while you get treatment for a non injury.

Can't believe some teams are knocking the ball out of play so opposition can treat a player with cramp. South Korea s being the case in point, the Algerian was two feet away from the touch line, let him skooch off for treatment.

It is very rare this happens when in a losing position 99% of the time it's the team hanging on to a result that those this.

It's all about time wasting and disrupting play for the opposition so they can't build momentum
