You need an upgrade. I've a 705 going cheap in the adverts forum!

Have an Edge 500 with firmware 3.30 and it appears to be working fine.

Have the newish "Garmin Express" installed (v3.2.7) and it recognises Edge fine and uploads to Garmin Connect, Ride with GPS and Strava. Recently Strava seems to take about a minute to recognise the device mind you that could be my laptop which has been playing up recently.

    Am on Win 8.1 OS

Only "issue" is that Garmin Express constantly prompts me to install an update to their TZ map. An inconvenience rather than a problem.

I noticed lately that it doesnt automatically start uploading either. IIRC there was a panel of 4 options after pressing the 'upload new activity' tab. By pressing the garmin option it then found the garmin device and uploaded as previously.
Perhaps a small change to the strava site?

My problem is strava doesn't find the device even if I click search.up till this as soon as I open strava with the Garmin already connected it automatically finds and downloads new activities. Dont know whats going on

Mines is the same. I just select the 'File' option and navigate to the garmin/activities folder and select the file from there. It turns out this is actually quicker than waiting for the ride to be automatically detected.

Also check that the are no issues with the USB cable and connection, check under "My Computer" that you see two extra drives, Garmin is one and one other.

Could be that your laptop is not detecting USB devices..and not a strava issue.

I'm afraid your garmin is fine and the issue arises from your bike, only option..

    ..new bike!

From the symptoms being described it (Garmin visible in Windows Explorer) it sounds like the issue is with the Garmin connector plugin for your browser. It may be that when Garmin Connect installed its new connector software to automatically upload your data to Garmin Connect it removed the Garmin Connector plug-in (vague recollection of this happening to me when the new Garmin connector installed, but it's the kind of thing I fix without even thinking about, so I can't fully recall). Do a search on Google for Garmin connector plug in; there should be one still available from the Garmin website (use other sites with caution). Reinstalling the plug in won't affect the new Garmin connector thingie.

It's a bit smart of Garmin switching their upload module. If one were suspicious, one might suspect it was a way of knocking the competition (Strava) on the head.

    Try

To force the unit to mass storage:
    1. Turn the unit off
    2. Hold the PAGE/MENU/ENTER button (bottom left) down
    3. Plug the unit into USB while still holding down the MENU button
    4. Your device will eventually go to mass storage

The new Garmin connector software updated my firmware before I realised what was happening. Device is still working. However, my normal approach to such things if 'if it ain't broke ...'.
