New laptop "plugged in, not charging"

    Hi guys

Just got a new laptop (asus). Was fine for the first few days and since I did over 100 Windows updates (windows 8), the battery now shows as "98%, plugged in, not charging". Have googled around and tried uninstalling the windows battery power meter under devices and rebooting as is suggested but it's no good.

    Any other ideas?
I am pretty sure it's not a hardware issue as it just happened after the windows updates from what I can tell. :(

Not sure, but is it possibly an "intelligent feature" where it just runs the laptop off the a/c when the battery charge is near full, and doesnt charge it so it lasts longer?

Some laptops won't charge until the battery drops to say to 90% for example as a battery preservation feature, nothing dodgy with your laptop.

Thanks guys - don't think that's a feature as I can't seem to manually change it, and nobody else seems to mention it about the model (X550C) but will hope for the best maybe. (I am afraid to run down the battery to test it in case I can't charge it back up)
At least it runs off the AC I guess.
    Thanks for the advice

Let it run down to 50% and give it a shot

Thanks guys - I just tried uninstalling the Auss power4gear power management bloatware and my battery said 100% fully charged, I thought the problem was fixed! But I look at it again and it is back to 97% plugged in, not charging again :(

Will try running it down a bit - below 80 maybe anyway.

Just to report back, after a few more restarts, it seemed to be fixed. Also charged itself back up to 100%. This morning, same "plugged in not charging" problem. :(
I guess I will have to keep an eye on it - it seems to come and go, but for others out there, uninstalling the Asus Power4gear software definitely seemed to help.

Thanks to everyone for the advice! Hopefully it will disappear again :)

But it's not a problem, it's how battery management works. With all your restarts I'd say your battery level fell below the default level and started to charge again.

Seems you are right! Once it drops below 95% it charges back ok. Thanks *so* much. Apologies for my stupidity - I have never had a laptop like that before!
