The best and worst game you've bought in a "heat of the moment" during a Steam sale?

Thought this might be fun, we've all bought a lot of crap.

My worst would be Burnout Paradise; I never had or will ever have a notion of playing it and I think it cost me €12 or something...

Best would be Super Hexagon, cost me like 80c I'm sure. If you don't have it, buy it! It's €1.01 atm :D

Worst? Dunno, I don't have many bad purchases and tend to control myself with impulse buys, but I'll go with The Last Remnant. It's not a bad game, very Final Fantasy esque, but the annoying controls made it an absolute chore and I just got bored of it. I promised myself I'd go back to it because I haven't played a good JRPG in years, but meh. That or Super Street Fighter IV, but that wasn't in a sale it was a daily deal I think. I was drunk when I bought it. (Also have Burnout Paradise as part of a Humble Bundle, it probably won't get played ever)

Best was Van Helsing, looked interesting and so I just grabbed it on an impulse, awesome little Diablo clone that I'd gotten some major fun out of.

Worst: Modern Warfare 2 at €12.50. I don't even know why, it was already in my library before I realised what I had done.

Best: Civ V €10, bought off a recommendation on here. Over 600 hours of gametime and still going strong.

Honorable mention: GTA: San Andreas. Bought for €2.50 for nostalgic value, ended up with over 250 hours of entertainment between the single player and SAMP.

Wasn't even a steam sale I bought the new X game at full price :( did I get ripped off or what.

Best possibly Kerbal space program, so many dead little guys.

Worst - Brothers, a tale of two sons. 2.49eu that I will never get back. Most over hyped crap ever.

Best - Spec ops the line. Best spent fiver.

Dark Souls. I think it was like 33% so I said sure feck it then an hour later it was 66% off and I never even it the client to launch properly. Ever.

Witcher 2 last year. I got it for €10 but a few days afterwards it was €5 so I raged a bit but ultimately enjoyed the game. Thinking of maybe replaying 1 and 2.

Worst: Dungeons - Special Steam Edition. I can't even get past the tutorial before quitting in disgust so poorly written and badly designed this game is.

Best: Probably Kerbal Space Program. I hummed and hawed for ages but finally settled on this one and got many, many hours of enjoyment out of it. :)

Worst: E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy - ugh I really did try to like it but it was just a nonsensical mess

Best: Dishonored which I had gifted to me and so bought the dlc for it as well

Breach and Clear. For some reason I had it in my head it was an FPS, was thinking of a different game, loaded it up and was like....nope, played for a grand total of 20 seconds.

Worst: Dragon's Lair. I saw the Don Bluth-style animation and thought it would be cool. It was not.

Best: Mark of the Ninja. Last year's sale thread sort of goaded me into it and it was worth every penny and more. I've sunk 40 hours into that game and I still go back every now and then.

How did you manage that!? The game is bloody suffocating under all of the "strategy simulation game" labels. :D

Agree on this one; the game should be good but it is simply not there... Best; hmm, probably Borderlands GoTY or Batman Asylum.

I went through a phase of buying anything that looked interesting for 2/3 euro. I can't remember all of my games but it would have to be alpha protocol off the top of my head.

Best and Worst : Surgeon Simulator 2013! :p

Nah my best would probably be the Portal games (I had dropped out of PC gaming when they originally came out but they've been a lot of fun)

Worst would have to be Test Drive Unlimited 2 - Worse than the first if that was even possible.

Defiance has to be the worst MMO i've ever played, and i've played loads..

The tv series isnt that great either.

best value game for time spent playing would have to be Shogun 2's expansion, fall of the samurai or Torchlight

    Best: Mass Effect 2

    Worst: Garry's Mod

    Best: X-Com Enemy Unknown
While this was hardly an unknown game or anything like that, I just wasn't sure I would like it. Had never played any of the originals. It was dirt cheap I think, or at maybe fell below my instabuy price. What a revelation it was. Easily my game of the last few years.

    Worst:
Eye: Divine Cybermancy - or whatever it is called.
Just couldn't play it. Found it so miserable to play, could get into it or enjoy it at all

Best was probably Defense Grid - only cost a few euro at the time, but I really enjoyed it. Really looking forward to playing the sequel too (won it on Steam Gifts last week :pac:). I think the first Orcs Must Die was also an impulse buy in a sale, and I loved that as well.

The worst was probably Papers Please. Don't get me wrong - I see the appeal and genuinely think it has a lot going for it (the eastern block setting and atmosphere are awesome). Unfortunately, the gameplay itself is essentially the exact same as one aspect of a previous job (quality assurance - cross referencing lots of documentation, tech drawings and engineering change sheets) and it just reminded me too much of that!

Best: CSGO. I've put in a silly amount of hours

Worst: DayZ or Rust. I can't stand this trend of unfinished games being released. I'm not into these open world games it seems. I prefer some linearity.
