Software help

Hi guys, I was wondering something that I hope some one here can help me with. I was bored and downloaded the app Bubble Witch 2 (I know I know...) anyway, when I started playing I noticed the little characters, which are really cute, seem to be 3d and are animated subtly with just breathing movement and eye blinks and a smile.
What software would be used to create this? It's for an app and I'm 90% sure it's not Adobe Flash which I have some knowledge of.

Boards won't allow me to post a url to show the game imagery but if your unsure of it Google Images Bubble Witch 2 will get you something and maybe Youtube to see her animated.

It's the very 3d effect bordering on a Pixar style that I'd just love to know what they use to create it. I myself use Paint tool sai, photoshop, sketchbook pro and I'm fairly sure these images are created using a more 3d rendering software. Any thoughts or tips would be great thanks
