    hi all,
we have a samsung fridge freezer rs21dcns (american style). they have a fault in them that was highlighted by Watchdog program in the UK and last year after a lot of chasing down they sent an engineer out to fix the manufacturing fault in it, this was march of 2013. Unfortunately the same symptoms are happening again. I seriously doubt that they will provide another engineer for free of charge as the product was purchased in 2006. Can anyone recommend a reputable engineer to come and fix the appliance in the Dublin 15 area? The problems are well documented across the internet with the product:
    • 'motor' audiably stops running when fridge door is open
    • Fridge seems warmer than the displayed temp
Any help soon would be great as I don't want a whole fridge of food to be thrown out if it gets any worse.
    cheers

you don't say exactly what the problem you are experiencing with yours but assuming its not cold enough try defrosting it as its the most common problem with them getting iced up . you could speed up the process with the aid of a hairdryer but make sure you keep it well outside the freezer side door to avoid any shocks etc. plug out the Samsung while defrosting, I have found that if you have kids that bang the fridge side door it causes the freezer door to open slightly causing temp problems

Okay so, i just had a look at the bottom of the fridge were there is a white plastic pipe. This was frozen solid last time we were having issue and you could see ice all around that area, but this time there is no freezing at all. The water in the pipe in sent even cold. Basically, the fridge feels like its not as cold as the temp is displaying. But more noticeably the fridge has gotten very loud recently and as soon as you open the fridge door you can hear the motor stop running…
this said the actual motor is still somewhat sporadicly running as sometimes if sounds like it has just stopped running. Maybe the issue is actually just an issue with the motor as opposed to there being any sort of an ice blockage.
as I say any recommendations welcomed.

there are three motors in the fridge, one a circulating fan motor inside the cabinet in the freezer side which should stop running when the door is opened and a cooling fan motor and compressor motor down inside the back panel. the fact that the noise stops when you open the door indicates the circulating fan motor, whats happening is the blades of the fan are clipping off an ice build up, this needs manual defrosting. your unit may also have a big build up of dust down inside the back panel on the condenser which causes huge problems with this hot weather. defrost it and give a good clean out down the back and it definitely wont do it any harm.

prob a silly question, but is there a way of reforesting just the fridge side as The freezer side is well sticked with food and I don't want it going to waste…
Is the defrosting of it a case of just unplugging the unit and waiting a few hours or will I have to get in and remove the back panel of the unit and go at the ice blokage with a hair dryer… this said I can't see any ice build up at all in the fridge side of the unit.
    THanks
for the detailed feed back so far

all the chill factor comes from the deep freeze side of the unit so its a case of investigating the freezer side or letting it defrost over a period or helped with aid of dryer and see if it returns to normal. it may have a defrost element failure but worth doing what I am telling you as a diy job and I am too far away from d15 to do a service call.

I had this problem with mine every 6 months
I moved the temp probe behind the panel to the left hand side from the right
Working ok now for 2 years in August

just a quick query as to wether its just a matter of removing the back panel on the fridge side of the unit… and wether this is an easy job to do, without the requirement of any 'special' tools?
    Thnaks

You need to let it defrost cause the panel will be stuck with ice and screw holes will be blocked too
I think if you press vacation mode the freezer part stays on while the fridge doesn't
If you use a hair dryer use a low heat cause the plastic will warp
There are two vent covers you need to clip off with a flat had screwdriver , and then use a philips to remove the screws from the panel
I think theres a vid on YouTube might be some help

    hi all,
after carrying out the de-frost the fridge was working fine for the last 3 weeks, but the last 2 days it has gotten really loud again and when I opn the fridge door you can hear a 'motor' grinding to a halt. Surely theres an issue if its acting up again after this short amount of time? I've re-defrosted it and its back working fine but I'm looking for a somewhat permanent solution.
Im open to suggestions as to what to do next, and any/all advice is welcomed.
    Thanks

guys, sorry to bump this but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend someone to come and fix this problem I'm having with the fridge. I have just had to defrost it again after 10 days. So basically, the fridge isn't de-frosting at all and the backlog of ice is stopping the fan from spinning. If anyone has had this fixed by someone they where happy with previously id appreciate their contact details. We are in dublin 15. Alternatively if anyone could suggest what I can do to fix it myself i'll give it a go, but defrosting it every 2 weeks isn't an option.
    Thanks in advance

positivenote, just ring the shop where you bough it for the phone number of the service repair tech for your model, like I told you in post 5 it most likely has defrost failure.

i appreciate your advice so far… and as I was saying it is failing to defrost itself as Ive just defrosted it again. Before I ring the shop for a technician to come out is the failed defrost element a DIY fix or am I better off getting a professional in to get it done properly.
    cheers
