Root Canal Pain

    Hi

Need a bit of reassurance it here.

Deep filling on pre molar a few weeks back which left me with toothache and a slight headache for about 10 days. Seen two different dentists in this time and was told it was a sinus issue.

Turned out to be an abscess which made my jaw swell quite a bit.

On antibiotics (amoxicillin and metrolag) and painkillers for a few days, then got root canal where I had some pain due to the files touching the abscess in the canals.

Tooth was left open for a few days to drain the abscess (no antibiotics) and swelling went down to a small pea sized lump below my jaw, no pain.

Went back three days later to get canals cleaned. There was still pain during cleaning due to the abscess. The dentist cleaned as much as she could, put medicine in the tooth, placed a temp filling and prescribed dalacin.

Has anyone ever had that type of pain during root canal?
Should the dalacin and the medication inside the tooth clear the abscess?
Is there a known time frame for the abscess to clear under what I've been given?

Forgot to add, the nerves were dead by the time the dentist started root canal.

    Thanks

these are known events during root canal and you should get better gradually, how quickly you recover depends on several variables so cant be accurately predicted, but you certainly will as the normal sequence of events seems to have happened here
