Well, looking at investing in a powered system(rcf,ev,db,yamaha) for weddings,

getting at least on 18 inch stereo sub,

    issue is regarding top size..

is there a real need for 15 inch top or would a 12 suffice?

There is no real need, its personal preference.

Normally its a 15 over an 18 etc but I've used many systems with a 10 or a 12 and its fine. As long as they are matched and one does not clearly out run the other.
