Very hard to buy a good one second hand. Why would they be selling it? Unless getting out of sheep. There was a thread here recently about scales, can't link to it, on phone.

Thedealer is another spot to look.

Though I think the best deal is the lad who's selling but doesn't realise the value of the item, hard to find him though!

I got the offer of a clock for weighing for 50euro. Would there be much into making the box part of it, could you make cheap one using timber?

Hard to find any value on ebay, although I like the drafting gate with the first one.

Change the money and give palletline 100 sterling, and you would be as well bite the bullet and buy new here.

Perhaps better keeping an eye open in the winter time.

You know those little books of Free ads, on sale in newsagents around the country?, sometimes they throw up a bargain

I bought a 300 kg digital scale for €80 delivered from this guy

very pleased with the service and the item itself

a timber box would be a bit awkard

if you hadn't too many lambs to weight & if they weren't over heavy , would consider using a sling under the lamb's belly ( made from light canvas or leather or a jute bag ) ?

that was my first weighting system and worked quite well with small numbers

Seems very cheap alright. Around 450 for a basic new one is the going price. Did you mean to put up the digital weighing clock for 80?

I think the ad shows a scale for 80euro - as in the digital measurement piece. Not the crate.
I assume this is what they're referring to.

If you are anywhere near Wicklow you can have my one, won't be to hard on you!, I'm done with it, it's home made copied from one I used to borrow.
It's properly done, I know what I'm doing :)!, front wheels, moving handle, analogue scales, never left outside..

If you haven't to many ewes, then a good pair of bathroom scales Will do. (depending on your own weight) if you are 80 kilos then grab a lamb and step on. if both of you weigh 125 kilo then you know the lamb is 45kilo. very soon you Will be cake to judge their weight without the scales. make sure the scales read up to a heavy enough weight to allow for heavy lambs. cheapest method, but hard to see the readout sometimes with a lamb struggling!

yes €80 is just for the digital clock, & it was a direct fit for my crate ,

I was waiting for someone to mention the bathroom scales, :-) been there, done that..... Nice to know I wasn't the only one.you forgot to mention it's very important to make sure the scales is on dead level ground as even a pebble can throw it out. Also they tend to get a bit dirty , and your missus won't be impressed with you when you return it to her afterwards........
Luckily I got a proper caged scales last year and don't have to resort to crazy ideas anymore .....

I got one secondhand last year through personal contacts. The person didn't do sheep any longer. It was only about 2 years old. Has a sticker on it supplied by esmonde's in Wexford. very useful when picking lambs for the mart. Iike everything sheep related, costs a few bob initially, but saves on grief in the long run
