    Hi Guys

Looking for a tablet to replace my Ipad. I have had Samsung Tab 2 7.0/Tab 3 8.0 and also a Nook....

Was going to buy the Samsung Tab 3 8.0 again but really want it to run Xbmc when I am away so not sure if it will have the power to run it.....

Was looking at the following from geekbuying: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Onda-V812-8-inch-Android-4-1-Tablet-PC-A31-Quad-Core-2GB-RAM-16GB-ROM-IPS-1024-768-White-313918.html

Looks like a good spec and not bad price(have got stuff before from geekbuying)

Just wondering if there is any recommendations out there? any other good websites to buy from? or a specific model that people know is good....thanks

I have the Asus memo ME301T 10.1-inch Tablet from Dabs.ie. It's a refurb though & it's not the latest version. I have it a few months & no problems whatsoever. I have xbmc Gotham on it & works perfectly. I steam movies etc & all fine. It's €159 at the moment. 16GB storage, micro sd slot plus otg usb works with it. For the price I'm very happy. . m.dabs.ie/products/asus-refurb-memo-pad-me301t-10-1-inch-tablet--blue--android--4-1-95N4.html?

Would you not wait for one of the new line of Galaxy tablets announced last week? Should be released soon. Also, Google I/O is on this week, could be a new high end Nexus tablet launched.

They will be way overpriced as they are new out.

Just checking if anyone has bought some of the non brand tablet with good spec that are good value for money? Thanks

The nexus tablets have been widely regarded as the best bang for buck tablets available.

You're better off paying a little more for a deceent tablet. It'll last longer and be worth it in the future.

Is the Argos 2012 Nexus worth the cash or screen small?? my other option is the 8" Samsung for 139 pound :-)

If it's just for XBMC the 2012 N7 will do fine. It's what I use and doesn't lag at all.

The nexus 10 is fairly highly priced compared with the competition, at 400 euros for the 8GB model.

the nexus 10 has been out about a year and a half or thereabouts. at the time of release it was certainly very competitively priced comparing specs etc to other tablets at the time

I remember looking at it when I was getting my own tablet and it was nearly double the price of the Samsung/Asus/Acer equivalents although those brands had all dropped their prices significantly just weeks before (possibly as they knew the Nexus would outsell them otherwise). There seems to have been very few high-end tablets released since then and the Nexus has retained its price. A Galaxy Tab 3 will cost you €230 for example.

I got this for the Missus, and it is mighty, so far:

Teclast p79HD 3G.....for around €118, delivered free from China, or €129, also free delivery, but guarantee to refund Customs Duty/Vat..

    Fastcardtech:

    http://www.fastcardtech.com/Teclast-P79HD-3G-Tablet-PC.html

    or Hong Kong Geek:

2 versions, one is also 3G, for €104 or €129:

    http://www.hongkongeek.com/en/modules/blocksearchcompletion/search.php?orderby=position&orderway=desc&search_query=p79HD&submit_search=

    Specs:

    teclast%20p79hd%203g%20spec.jpg

    Video, Benchmarking:

All I can say is, it delivers everything promised, and I got to root it too, which I will post about later.

It's a total peach, and I got the 3G, and it takes a normal sized SIM, with no problem finding any Irish Network.

Also, it is 2GB RAM, and 16GB ROM built-in, with slot for additional microSD up to 32G.....

Out of the box AnTuTu almost 20,000!!!!

Only downside, the screen resolution makes the display small'ish, at 240dpi....

but, I plan to install Xposed Framework, now I am rooted, to allow modifying the DPI on a per app basis, rather than change completely to 320dpi, which is what my Nexus uses.

Sounds good....any chance of screen shot to show resolution? I know I am pushing it......but looks a good job, I was looking for something like that but maybe a bit bigger, 8" or more.

    It's a 7 inch, like a Nexus 7...

but the resolution can be modified, I'm working on it now.....it's just too tiny as it is, the Nexus uses 320dpi, this has 240dpi, like a phone would have.

these are screeenies I posted to the China forum, which gave me root instructions....

I had already replaced the Teclast Launcher with Nova:

    IMG_20140623_160452.jpg

And, just for you, here is one I just took, no China Apps left!!! some have been uninstalled, some hidden.....

Just for further info, for anyone interested, I have successfully managed to change the LCD density/resolution of the above-mentioned Tablet.

    It is now 315 dpi:

Here is how it now looks:

And showing Advanced Power Menu [Xposed Framework Module]:

Yeah, one issue has cropped up, when I attempted to install Google Plus app.

There is an issue after downloading in that I get an error message saying something like "system files or dependencies required or not present"...

Thats not exact mind, and I get the same with Daft!!!

I have Play, Maps, Gmail, most GApps ( Google Apps), and I think this can be solved by flashing a GApps package for 4.2.2, the current Android system on the tablet. I am investigating actuvelyy, and will report back. I am rooted, I linked the root mm method, I think. If not, I'll post instructions.......

it went smoothly, and the method was vRoot, from China again.

On the processor.... it is seriously fast, 20000 Antutu, there is 2GB Ram.....

The tablet flies, can handle everything thrown at it, I replaced the ITEC launcher with Nova, much better and familiar.

I have uninstalled or hidden all Chinese apps except Update, which should have KK soon, or so the Chinese support forum says.

I also changed the DPI, as the 240 made everything tiny, no probs now at all.

no probs so far, and deep sleep is always 80/90% [CPU Spy] during night, battery loses very little when not in use negligable really.

    I'll post further screenies, asap.

    Cheers

Yeah, there is GPS, but I don't use it my self, what would be a good test, or an App to check it's effectiveness??

I don't currently have a SIM card in, but I have tried out a few earlier, and thrt is no problem with the mobile networking, at 2g/3g and H/H+.

I really haven't a clue about the GPS, except to say this is what I see with Location Access enabled:

    IMG_20140628_212538.jpg

And here when I use an app called GPS Status, and disable Aeroplane mode, no SIM in still, but check tools, and download a-gps data, I get these:

    IMG_20140628_213851.jpg

    IMG_20140628_212645.jpg

So, tell me what to do to help you on this.
