I currently pay €81 per month for the standard package plus sports and movies. What does everyone else pay for these?

There is quite a few paying half that. Ring Sky to cancel and see what they offer you.

The question is do you watch enough sport and movies to justify a grand a year given that all the terrestrial channels can be had for free and you could stream most of the sports for a lot less or nothing

    Ring and threaten to cancel.

    They'll make you an offer.

If the offer is still ****, give your notice of 30 days. Someone will ring you within the 30-day period. If it comes to Day 29 and no one has rang you, ring Sky and say someone called you about coming back but you got cut off. The offer will be in the system.

If you rarely watch the movies cancel Sky Movies.

If you dont watch all the Sports channels, downgrade.

You have to give Sky a months notice.

I canceled Sky Sports 1 30 days before the last Premiership game this season.

According to the Saorview advert, 97% of the 1,000s of programmes people watch on TV are available free, so why pay so much for so little?

BT sports/Setanta is available for a lot less at present, but it depends on what you watch.

Movies are available from Netflix if you have unlimited broadband.

Sky gives you a basic package you have to have first that is mostly free channels.

If you threaten to cancel they'll give you an offer but it only lasts for so long (you should ask how long and also ask what your monthly bill will be once the offer ends). If you can cancel it altogether and set up a new account (different name) then it will be much cheaper.

I live with my brother and he used to pay €152 a month for SKY+HD (all the channels including Movies and Sports). He cancelled it in February and a week later set up a new account in his wife's name. He doesn't have HD or Movies anymore. He now pays €79 a month and for that he gets one SKY+ box, 2 extra subscriptions for two other rooms (normal Sky Boxes) and all the channels including Sky Sports. Those extra subscriptions are €10 (x2) I think.

Sky Movies is no longer worth its price. I am a huge movie fan but I don't miss it (never thought I'd ever say that). It used to be brilliant and I loved Sky Movies Premier because it always had big movies but over the past year half of the movies on it I've never heard of or have no interest in watching. Now all the best movies seem to be only available in the Sky Store but you have to pay to rent them and that's not fair, Sky Store ruined Sky Movies. I miss Sky Disney a little bit but not enough to get it again.

I pay nothing, only TV licence, better value to watch FTA TV and buy the odd DVD.

Was Sky Subscriber for many years including Analogue for a while.

About 92% of viewing time of Pay TV subscribers is watching FTA programs. So really anyone with ANY Pay TV is getting ripped off.

Similar here ....... from analogue days.

FTA only now, using XBMC and its add-ons I do not even use a DVD player.

I have much more available than I could ever want.

    nearly two years FTA

    I pay my TV Licence
€9.99 a month for Setanta sports Pack and that's it.

OK install was pricey and you pay up front but two years on well in the clear and don't miss sky/upc!

I understood from Setanta that you must have a Sky subscription in order to get the Setanta channels on a Sky card.

This seems to say I have been misinformed .......

Ah, I see ...... it requires a specific STB from Sky.

Wife watching Eastbourne Tennis on Eurosport.de FTA
Even with big dish, 17/16 Multiswitch with 4 x Quattro LNBs and bar, able to feed 16 tuners (i.e. 4 x PVRs and 8 ordinary boxes or mix), 3 sat receivers and 2 PCs with each 2x Sat cards I have spent on Sat gear less than many people pay of one year Pay TV.

One PC in outdoor shed feeds Living room TV (2 x cat5 cable spliced on a €2 HDMI cable cut in half) and USB extension cables (repeater in middle powered off cable) for optional hub in living room with 2nd keyboard & mouse. 3rd Cat5 cable carries IR remote signals from the sat card sensor & cable cut in half.

Are you still waiting? What happened (if anything)?

I rang to cancel my subscription & they offered me 20% reduction for 9 months.
I cancelled anyway as I find most of the stuff we watch is on free to air channels.
I had Sky Sports for the Soccer but last season I watched most of it on the Net.
I could do a lot better with €98 a month beside giving it to Sky.

A quick question here, on cancelling, like a lot of others Im cancelling sky in the coming days.

I have BT sport as I watch Moto GP on this (not sure if i'll get rid) but i understand that if i cancel sky, my ability to record pause etc on BT will stop working.

So is there another option to have the ability to pause record BT, will i require a new box?

Sorry but been away from satellite for a while so am a bit rusty.

Hi, yes still waiting. They havent called yet. My last day is the 19th so if I havent heard by the 15th or 16th I will have to ring them and see what offer is on the table. The missus would kill me if I let the basic sly go.
