I got crack in my windscreen last night from stone flying to it from the road.
Now i am insured with comprehensive insurance and would like to claim from my insurance company to be replaced.
Will it have any impact to my no claim bonus?
Will i have to fill in details of this claim next time i am filling new insurance policy?

Give them a ring - a lot of them are in cahoots with Autoglass or the like, so you can just show up and they sort you out, the whole thing is seamless and rather pleasant. Glass-cover claims don't generally affect your NCB on a comprehensive policy, but as I said, give the insurance company a ring to be sure of your ground.

Most policies have "Windscreen cover" as a separate section and it should not affect your NCB, or need to be declared as a claim.

Yes, Normally it doesn't affect your claim bonus. Ring your insurance anyway to sort it :)

ye give your insurer a ring. Usually it is covered, however you will have to get it replaced by who ever they align with.

Had mine replaced last year and there was no issue. They arranged everything and they came out to my place of work and changed it there so I didn't even have to take time off work

The last time I had my windscreen replaced it didnt affect my NCB but it was listed on the NCB cert that I got sent out at the end of the policy, so I suppose in theory it depends on the new insurer what they choose to do with that information should you change, but honestly I dont think I have ever heard of a windscreen affect a policy before.

    Exactly.
I had 4 claims in the last 5 years (one own car damage, and 3 windscreen claims).
Windscreen claims don't affect my NCB. I had NCB protection so own car damage claim also didn't affect NCB. My premium was not affected.

However I was trying to get cover from FBD now, as they seem to be the only insurer offering fully comprehensive cover with no limit of time car can be driven abroad (and that's what I need), and they refused to quote me, based on grounds that I had 4 claims in the last 5 years, even though 3 of them were only windscreen claims. Have I had only 3 claims, they would insure me no problem with very attractive premium.

Are you not dealing directly with the approved repairer? Is that where the delay is, not AXA?

Did you go to their approved repairer or your own contact? Standard practice is to put the call in and the lads call out to fix it in a day or so

    Sort-of related...

My A6's windscreen has a lot of circular swirls on it from (I'm assuming) the last owner going at it with one of those powered buffers - eejit!

Would this be covered under a insurance replacement or will it need a run-in with a stone chip.

Also, the car has auto-wipers and lights so I presume yer standard bit of glass won't be good enough?

Metzgermeister knows about using a DA to remove some marks on windscreens... maybe you could go that route?

There always seems to be issues with auto-wipers. Not because the wrong screen is fitted - they fit one that is the same spec, just not OE. The problem is that the sensor is behind the rear view mirror, and it's some form of gel. This never gets replaced, just re-fitted. Apparently that's where the trouble lies.

Had the same problem. Windscreen cracked by a stone. Was insured with AXA, contacted them, they gave me the number for Autoglas. Took 2 days to get the new windscreen because of the sensors. They came to the house, fitted the new windscreen, I signed the form. Painless. Doesn't affect the NCB.

Is this on the car you just bought? If so, maybe that is why axa had an issue with your windscreen claim?

Insist that they satisfy themselves that all auto functions are working before they undertake the work and thoroughly check that all is working after. Insist that they order and replace the gel pad between the glass and the rain sensor. If they won't confirm this in writing, refuse the repair.
I got a screen replaced and no doubt the windscreen company thought I was a complete pr1ck but beget that than be left with a faulty repair.
I had a call to my house to replace screen. Tools him to check the auto wipers. Ah he said, that stuff never lasts. After insisting that mine works and I wanted it to continue to work, he takes new screen from Van, shows me tiny Mark on it and says he will not fit it for me and clears off.
I figure he knew he was going to make a balls of the auto functions.

Ah I get it now. You buy a car on the Wednesday, on the Saturday you enquire if a windscreen which is white around the edges is a NCT fail and on the Monday you put in a windscreen claim with your insurer.

I'm not a "boy" and I made no comment other than to quote you from your previous posts. Did you (a) buy a car the other Wednesday, (b) enquire about if a certain condition on a windscreen is a NCT fail and (c) submit a windscreen claim to your insurer?????????????

Will an insurance company pay for a genuine windscreen, i.e if you wanted a vw/bmw/merc stamped screen same as the original will they pay for it?

I believe if the car is under a certain age, you are entitled to genuine replacement though few people insist on it.
I believe you could also take a cheque in settlement and pay for the dearer screen yourself if you had an older car. I know the total cost of replacement screen on my car was just over 250 quid. That wouldn't go near buying a genuine screen.
