Vasectomies

So Ray D'Arcy says he might have a vasectomy live on radio (yeah, I'll definitely be tuning into that...) and it got me thinking, would the good people of AH have such an operation (off air we'll assume)? And for those who have one, do you feel any different afterwards?

I can see the logic in getting one after having a few kids, but I'm not sure I could go through with it.

Would you get a vasectomy/tubes tied? 47 votes

No way, I'll kill you if you say it again

I am waiting for "Vasalgel" technology to come thru. In short it's reversible and it should be a lot less hassle to do. Clinical trials set to start in 2015, and expected to be available in 2016 or so. It's a 'social venture', not for profit etc. What is not to like?

    Read up here:

PS: Might get done RISUG actually

I'd get my ovaries removed no problem. I wasn't using them anyway.

Like positron I've been watching news of the reversible technologies being trialed with a hope to get them in my life-time (or at least my step-sons).

The impact this could have on gender dynamics could be extraordinary as men finally get the opportunity to reliably control their own fertility. While the pill launched the free love of the 60's, I can see the likes of vasalgel playing a role in large increases in MGTOW.

Please tell me they've changed the meaning and it now means having your voice box removed.

See its a bit more awkward than that.

If you get with a girl and she says its ok i'm on the pill you are likely to believe them and carry on.

Switch roles though, and the guy saying its grand i'm on the pill or i'm snipped and the girl who knows that if you are lying then she could be bringing a baby into the world in 9 months and you could be long gone she might be a bit more wary than the guy.

Of course you should always bag it cause pregnancy isn't the only thing both people have to worry about

Thankfully it's something I never have to worry about (one of the few perks of being heterosexually challenged) but if I was straight I'd definitely consider doing it. A little surgery and few weeks recovery would be a lot less painful than at least 18 years of a screaming, money draining brat hanging around.

Anyone not wearing a condom for a ONS / fling deserves whatever happens to them tbh...

Reversible sterilization offers men the opportunity to take control of their own pro-creation, something which should greatly reduce the number of crisis pregnancies (since it's more reliable as oral contraception) and furthermore, protect themselves from accidents where the pill was taken incorrectly, a condoms splits and the woman refuses to take emergency contraception etc. or the more sinister situation where they've been lied to regarding their partners' use of contraception.

In case I want children at some point I won't, if I decide that I definitely don't later on then it sounds good.

I was intending to after kid no.2 was created. However as the pregnancy progressed and the reality of what I was facing began to loom I began to have real qualms about it. Totally illogical - I really don't want any more kids but the permanancy of the solution filled me with dread.

In the end the wife had a cesaerian and the doc did a tubal ligation while he was in there - 'you really shouldn't get pregnant again - do you want me to sort that out while I'm doing the delivery?' so I never had to deal with the conundrum of whether I'd go through with it or not.
