Car has started 'pinking'

    2011 Passat 1.4Tsi.

Have noticed recently that the car has started 'pinking' very quietly, at low revsunder load. Just wondering is it something that I should get looked at?

Have been using the same fuel as usual, Topaz, Esso and have not fueled anywhere dodgy.

    Any ideas?

    Any ideas?

    By pinking you mean knocking?

Taking it to a garage and getting the fault codes read would probably be a good first step...

Think so, that metallic engine sound when accelerating, usually at low revs.

Sounds like low octane level(fuel) or ignition timing is slightly out.

I think that TSi engine can suffer from timing chain stretching. I'd have it looked at sooner rather than later to be honest.

Surely a stretched chain would retard the timing? I don't think pinking would be a symptom of a stretched timing chain. My 1.4 pinks occasionally, good radio sorts it out.

In my experience mild pinking upon acceleration is completely normal especially in hot weather.
