Hi all, I have applied for grant and sent back documents with proof of address/residency etc as requested but I got a letter back today asking for details of income from self employment. Now I am not self employed but my husband used to be up until December 2012, we have been on unemployment benefit since January 2013. I thought the grant was decided on income from the 1st Jan to 31st Dec of the previous year which would be 2013 so why are they looking for income from self employment from 2012?? Are they allowed change the rules or qualifying criteria if they want to?

    Thanks in advance :)

The means test is based on income from 2013. They have no reason to look for 2012 details.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Thank you. I was thinking the same but they did ask, said something came up in there system from revenue. I sent them a letter from revenue confirming he stopped self employment in 2012 so I'll see what happens next. Thanks again :)

I got the exact same letter from susi today requesting a p60 from my father and a revenue self assessment statement for 2013. I emailed them and they said something showed up on the revenue system about my father being self employed or income from rental property! I'm totally confused now

Was your dad ever self employed? Can't see why it would ask for details from self employment if he wasn't?? I'm sure the reason they looked for my self employment details is cause it showed something about it from revenue but obviously didn't give correct dates.

I sent them a letter from revenue stating my husband is no longer self employed, maybe do the same if your dad was but is no longer self employed. If he wasn't self employed it's just a mistake on their behave and I wouldn't worry about it!

Thanks for the reply. It turns out my dad did some extra work along with his job and did a return on it. Say for example he took in x amount of money is that what susi add onto the income or is it the amount after expenses etc are taken out of it that's counted then? I'm totally confused now! I'm 34 it's difficult asking my father for information about his finances
