What is the notice period for a fixed term contract ,I am on my second 2 year contract? I assume its less than a month/ thanks

As with all these questions, you Contract of Employment is the place to start.

Why do you assume it's less than a month? Is this what you hope it is, or are you basing that on some other information.

If, for some reason, your notice period is not in your contract, then this applies:

Duration of employment Minimum Notice
13 weeks to 2 years 1 week
2 years to 5 years 2 weeks
5 years to 10 years 4 weeks
10 years to 15 years 6 weeks
15 years or more 8 weeks

Unless your second contract started some time after your 1st one ended, they are deemed to run consecutively.

Any clause re Notice in your contract will supersede 'Minimum Notice' above.

Yes this was my first port of call it says one week, when I ran this by hr they are stating it is a month! My direct hr manager is off sick and the replacement just said they 'dont know'. Thanks for the help

Bring in your contract so, and ask them why the disparity.

It's not unusual for more than the minimum notice to be in a contract, I've had notice periods of up to three months in the past, on fixed term contracts too!

If it says one week in your contract, then that is exactly what your notice period is. However if you want a reference from the company you might be as well do do the four weeks. Otherwise they might just agree to confirm dates of employment for your next employer.
