Pitch & Putt clubs

    Hi guys!

Can anyone here who plays P&P give me some club advice?

I have a Ryder branded 60 degree wedge and putter that I bought in argos years ago.

I am only going playing every week or so over the summer for casual play with a friend so I'm not looking to be very competitive. (I haven't played much, maybe 3 or 4 times a few years ago when I bought the clubs originally!)

Is the 60 degree wedge a suitable club for P&P or would I be better off buying a PW or SW or something? (For example my friend is buying a PW & putter in the golf shop for €40, so maybe it would be better to just shell out for new clubs if the PW is a better option?)

We played a round last week using borrowed clubs from the clubhouse. I had a SW & he a PW and I did ok with them but he seemed to be getting a lot more loft.

Thanks a lot in advance :)

It all the depends on the length of the course your playing and how long you hit, i know a 60degree would be no good for say st.Annes as their are 100-150 yard holes, but regardless of the situation i would always go with a PW, a good distance if your a big hitter and it's perfect for chipping etc.

Ah, Deer park is a nice ole place, not a desperate need for a PW because there are no real long P+P holes as far as i remember but i would still say go with the pitching wedge, you can get some nice cheap clubs in heatons in Charlestown, maybe €15 for a decent pitching wedge?

Played P&P last night with a PW and found it tough going. The ball wouldn't sit on the green at all, kept bouncing off. Finished 5 over with no gir, crazy for P&P. Happy with my pitching though.

As said earlier if the course is short a more lofted club like SW or even LW would be more suitable.

Is the 60 degree a LW? Maybe I should try using that for a round and see how that goes before buying a new one?

Yes I would suggest this. It won't go as far as a PW but you're ball will stop much quicker on the green.

Just in relation to Carpo's situation, if you open your club face and stance you can get your ball to sit on even the hardest of greens with PW ;)

My only advice is never buy golf clubs from heatons. They are absolute garbage. Try your friends pw and if u like get the same.
nice mix of short and long in deerpark.
Looking to change my clubs where did your buddy get them.

What golf ball are you using?

For P&P you need a soft ball. Good old commandos and players back in my day.

I used SW and worked my way up to LW when I could reach all the holes using a LW without forcing it.

It was in my teens so long time ago.

Longest hole in P&P is 70 metres/77 yards

He got them in Killarney, the Golf Shop on college street. PW & putter for €40.

They are left handed clubs though.

I did ok with the SW that I borrowed from the club the first day we went. Might just try my 60 degree the next time and compare my scores with that. If I do horribly I will probably purchase the PW.

    Using just regular golf balls.

I found the SW ok when I used it but was struggling for distance at times. Maybe because I haven't had the chance to work on my swing/gaguing distance yet. Really struggled when in the rough a few times but my chipping shots near the greens were decent.
