Hi,

I was unemployed since December and got put on JSA in about February. I applied for a medical card and got one about a month ago, but I've just found a job (yippee!)

What do I do with the card? I read about the GP visit card being retained for three years, but is that only if you've been getting social welfare for a certain amount of time?

Returning to work

If you are getting a social welfare payment for a year or more and return to work, you may be able to keep your medical card for up to 3 years. It is planned to change this in 2014 so that instead you will be entitled to retain a GP Visit Card without a means test when you return to work, rather than retaining a medical card. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/health/entitlement_to_health_services/medical_card.html
