Do not know if this is in the correct section, if someone serves a day (in and out) for non payment of fines (failure to pay parking ticket), and needs to be garda vetted to take part in a course that eventually will lead to a job as a healthcare worker (nurse for example). Would they be disqualified from this ?? not much info online

the fine went from 40 euro to 350 euro and I did not have the money to pay for it.

    Disqualified? I highly doubt it.

In fact I think with some recent changes that wouldn't even come up in Vetting.

I hope so, would it come back on the vetting that I spent time in prison, or just that I have a traffic offence (is non payment of parking ticket by local council motor or traffic offence)

Won't any job that requires garda vetting ask if you've had any convictions?

You'd look worse for lying than spending a day in prison over an unpaid fine.

I will be fully transparent, that is why I originally asked the question, whether or not I would be disqualified AFTER i submit the vetting forms with all relevant info.

No, they're usually reasonable. If you'd been in prison for beating up the elderly or selling drugs then there'd be an issue, but a one day sentence for something completely unrelated or unlikely to affect your career then it shouldn't cause a problem.

I'd go on the run anyway, just to be safe.

It totally depends on what your actual sentence was.
I know you only spent one day in prison but how long were you sentenced to?
    3 months = fcuked
    2 months = fcuked
    1 month = fcuked
    1 week = Ok

    OP, depends on the offence.
A traffic fine and non payment of that warrants an appearance in court will show up but in general anyone who requires the garda vetting will see this and assess it as such.

I'd be careful that it's not too short.

It will depend on the convictions(also when they happened) and what your require the Garda vetting form. There's no set rules in place so each organisation will have their own criteria.

Big gap between offence/conviction dates which worries me as I think I'll only be judged on conviction date, its working with the young mostly (under 18's) was done for assault twice both on an adult male family member, that would be the worst of what I have.

To be honest anything to do with physical violence when working with young people would probably rule you out. Even before the Garda vetting comes back I'd ask to speak with the recruiter person and mention it to them before waiting until the Garda form comes back to them. You're better off being up front straight away.

i enclosed a detailed letter outlining it,I declared everything upfront, just hope I get the green light, but it's looking remote I reckon myself, but only way to find out for certain is to try, I'll find the act for the offence and try to attach

Best of luck, I hope it doesn't go against you but criteria regarding this type of conviction when working with minors would be a red flag unfortunately.

I know, I got told whilst not an automatic disqualification it's certainly not a help, the offence is section 2 non fatal offences against the person act 1997
