Hi guys, my question is a bit complicated just wondering has anyone been in a similar situation that might be able to answer it. I've been a single parent since I was eight months pregnant. My baby was born at the end of last January so I was eligable for one parent family payment with half rate maternity benefit. My maternity benefit came into pay immediately (230) and I have been waiting until now to be changed to half rate mat benefit with full opfp. I finally received a call today saying I was aproved and they'll backdate my pay to last January. I calculated up how much the full opfp and half rate mat benefit minus maintenance should be and its 290 a week, that's 60 extra than what I've been getting. The social wefface inspector said I will owe half of the mat benefit back that I've received since its half rate.. My baby is 20 weeks old.. Does this mean that they'll pay me twenty weeks worth of full opfp and I'll pay back five euro a week for the half rate maternity benefit or they'll deduct what I owe from the opfp out of my Backdated money? If anyone understands what I'm saying haha sorry I can't think how to word my question better...thank you for taking the time to read this shpiel :D

They will deduct whatever you owe them in one lump from your arrears before you even get it.
