Not impressed with the article. It is usually poor quality e-cigs which are causing the issue.. UN must take actions against poor quality brands..

The latest letter, in contrast, said manufacturers should be required to present data that show the products are safe and help smokers quit

What's quitting got to do with it as a matter of interest? I started vaping as an alternative to tobacco smoking, it was never presented to me as quitting mechanism (even though I have smoked only a quarter of a cigarette on three occasions since then, six months ago).

If they're safe, regardless of quitting possibilities, that should be enough for them to be regulated entirely different from tobacco.

EDIT: I have proved conclusively that vaping helps somkers quit: When you are in the process of vaping an electronic cigarette it's impossible for you to engage in the act of tobacco smoking.

I'm interested in the same question for similar reasons , I went onto ecigs so that I could continue using nicotine without inhaling everything that goes with traditional tobacco products . I don't really want to quit using nicotine , I like what it does for me .

I also don't want to be ruled over by a nanny state , but thats a debate for another day and another forum .

This bit's unfortunate and shows how nanny staters think things should be done.
The latest letter, in contrast, said manufacturers should be required to present data that show the products are safe and help smokers quit, and disclose ingredients in the "vaping" liquid the devices burn.

Our laws are derived British Common Law. The basis of that is that everything is ok unless it can be seen or proven to be harmful and at that point the government will / should legislate. That's why car manufacturers don't have to prove their cars are safe, or food companies can add sugar and salt to make their products taste good without having to be "inspected" first.

If we were to operate under the "prove it's ok" philosophy / mantra of the nanny staters, we wouldn't have motorbikes or mobile phones. If idiots like these get their way, we'll be back in the dark ages.
