Hi, I just have quick question about insuring second car in family.
Before we sold our car ,me and my wife thought about leaving it.
To be surprised the insurance company Allianz quoted us around 1500€ compared to our usual 550€. As a response they said that second car is quoted without NCB.
Is it standard in other companies as well?

Yes. NCB is per policy, which is per car. You have to earn it.

That's weird for me. If I get new car ill get the discount from NCB but on second car i've to earn them again?
    Hard to understand that.

Fairly standard in Ireland, with motor insurance as well as most everything else. It's know as the "Ride Me Sideways" method.

If you already have one policy in your name I assume your wife is a named driver on that policy?
If so, you can get name driver experience - it should bring it down a good bit.
You may have to ring around a bit for that though.

There are some insurers who will offer ncb mirroring. Best talk to a broker and see what they can do.

Now its not important because we have only one car atm. Our old was gone in the same day we bought new.
I was just curious how does it work. We were just surprised that if we took second car the NCB work is such weird way.
