What's the story with antibiotics & alcohol

    Been prescribed Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid 250mg/125mg for 7 days. Have a fairly important social function on Friday and want to know what the story is with alcohol and antibiotics.

    To be clear, I'm not asking for a lecture on drinking and how I should do without etc. Really, I'm not.

    Would I be right in saying alcohol just negates the effect of the ABs?

    To be honest I am not in a great need for them, it's a dental situation and the pain I was in seemed to be sorted by the filling.

    Can I start them now and drink on Friday? Or would I be better off waiting and starting them on Saturday?
