    Hi guys,

Looking to head away for a short break on 26th July until the 1st August. Cant decide where though. It's myself and the lady friend so looking for somewhere hot enough but with things to do. We wouldn't be too into lying on the beach all day. We'd be more into things to look at etc.

Any suggestions for it? Was looking at slovenia/croatia but can't get flights to suit the dates at all.

    How about Malta?
We went there last year for a week and loved it and would love to go back.
Have a nice time wherever you go.

Yes I'll look into this. Would you have any suggestions for what would be a "Definitely don't miss if you go"? Where did ye stay while there?

    Thanks for the response.

Valletta is gorgeous and the food is great. I can highly recommend the British Hotel http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Hotel_Review-g190328-d266897-Reviews-British_Hotel-Valletta_Island_of_Malta.html - it's a bit Fawlty Towers, and was (relatively) cheap as chips, but location is superb in the old town overlooking the Grand Harbour with a bar/breakfast room where you could spend the day just looking out from the tables. We spent the money we saved on rooms (which were just fine, by the way, if not lap of luxury) and blew it on good food and wine in abundance.

There are two bus trips around the main island - we did one and had lunch and a bit of time in Mdina which was lovely.

I believe Gozo is gorgeous, we didn't make it there - we were there for another reason and just had two free days in Valletta which was nowhere near enough.

North of Valletta is the more touristy, built-up area - lots of big hotels, crowded beaches and it's a bit nightclub-strip looking - south are a lot of fishing villages and is a lot quieter. If that's your thing, it's supposed to be absolutely gorgeous.

I loved it over there, can't wait to go back some time.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input already. We've decided to book flights to Trieste and drive to Lake Bled from there. We're arriving on a saturday and leaving on the friday 6 days later. Any suggestions that would be helpful for the trip? Accommodation or things that are a must see/avoid etc.?
