Gum Abscess Question

I am in my fifties and still have all my teeth (but no wisdom teeth ever came through!) I’ve been told my teeth are good but my gums are not so good, with deep pockets. I have been having check ups and cleaning sessions every 6 months for about four years now. My last check up was 3 weeks ago and my cleaning session was 2 weeks ago. Everything was fine.

Yesterday I woke up to feel discomfort when biting down on my right back upper teeth. Soon a lump had formed above my 2nd to last tooth on the inside of my gum. Within a few hours I was in real pain and had to take two painkillers. It felt exactly like gum abscesses I have had before.

I woke up this morning ready to make an appointment to be seen but the pain has gone. Obviously I’ve been cleaning carefully and using mouthwash several times a day. Is it possible that the lump and pain was caused by trapped food or a small injury and this has now resolved itself? Or should I still make an appointment with my dentist?

always better to check it out , you could have got a more detailed response if you rang your dentist where they got all your info already :-)
