Black is the colour

I remember a few years ago, while on holidays in Spain, a young lady remarking casually;-- ''Think I'll wear black today, get burned much quicker''.

Just looking at people around Dublin city centre yesterday. So many women wearing black. Black dresses and black opaque tights. Am I not up to date here? I'd be looking on black as being the least suitable for 20+ temps. And with less than the perfect pins, I do like my tights, but in weather like this I prefer to go bare legged.

I'm wearing black tights atm but that's more because I couldn't subject the public to my awful see through legs than anything else. I've never heard the "burn more quickly" thing before. I'm still trying to wear more summery dresses though.

I had black tights on yesterday, mainly cos I had a waxing appointment and didnt fancy showing the legs to the world before and after! Felt the heat though, and felt like a plonker walking around.

I think the theory is that white and light colours reflect sunlight, whereas black and dark colours absorb it. So you will feel warmer wearing dark colours than you will wearing light ones. I don't see how it would have any influence on whether or not you'd burn though.

It's physics, black attracts heat. I'm fairly sure it has no UV powers of attraction though. So wearing black today, chances are you'd feel more heat than somebody wearing white but you won't get any extra sunburn as a result

The physics actually is that black absorbs the most light (and therefore the heat), very little is reflected. UV and Infra-red are only frequencies of light outside what we can see.

There is a young woman in work who wears really heavy opaques tights every day - the ones you can't even see through. Even this week she is wearing them, with a black jacket. I think I only have seen her in sheer tights once.

I passed I guy today dressed in a shirt, jumper and a long two-layer Berghaus jacket!!! At least he had it open at the neck.

Another guy was jogging in a dark grey tracksuit - with the hood up. At least he'll loose weight and get exercise at the same time.
