Does anyone know if some new road bikes usually experience this. The fron brake makes this terrible screeching noise when I stop. The rear brake is fine. It was mentioned to me that it could be because its a new bike and it just needs breaking in:rolleyes:

It happens when the rear of the pad strikes the wheel before the front.

Thanks Wishbone. I will play around with it this evening i.e adjust the pad until its rectified.

...or try to sand/file a bit from the rear of the pad.

(Don't be tempted to bend the brake arm to make the pads toe-in.)

If the pads have dished washers, allowing the pad to be set at a good angle, then insert a thin object* under the rear of the pad and squeeze the brake a medium amount to hold the pad against the rim, and tighten the bolt.

*a cable tie strap is ideal, or some card, folded over, works too.
