I'm buying a repossessed house. The old owner didn't pay the household charge or subsequent property tax.

Do I have to pay the previous years charges & fines?

Your solicitor who acts in the sale will negotiate with the other sides solicitor but they are a charge on the property not necessarily the owner. If the previous owner refused to pay they need to be paid when the house is sold and your solicitor will either negotiate that they are paid or the price is adjusted for the sale accordingly

I wouldn't think so. We were told by our solicitor that eventhough the LPT 2014 was charged to whoever was in possession of the property some date last Nov we will have to pay for the months in 2014 that the house is ours and the previous owners will be reimbursed. That's how it works. I would take that to possibly mean you should only be liable as to when you take possession?
