Leaving CE Scheme

    Just a quick question,
If you have started a CE Scheme whilst on jobseekers and decide to leave the CE after 3/4 months what are the implications?

Will it affect the jobseekers benefit or the chance to apply for the BTE scheme?

Trying to advise someone at a crossroads who regrets starting the scheme (many factors and not a light decision) and is wanting to throw in the towel and finish their degree or explore other avenues.

    Any info is greatly appreciated.

    ...

You may be disqualified from getting Jobseeker's Benefit for 9 weeks if you:

Left work voluntarily and without a reasonable cause
    Lost your job through misconduct

Q8. Can I transfer directly from VTOS/CE Schemes etc. to BTEA?

Time spent on DSP Work programmes (CE, Tus, RSS, etc.) Work Placement programmes (JobBridge etc.), Back to Work schemes, VTOS or FAS schemes can count towards the qualifying period for Back to Education Allowance. This applies only in circumstances where the person establishes an entitlement to a relevant Social Welfare payment immediately prior to commencing an approved course of study. If a person drops out of one of these schemes, they should contact a Case Officer in their Intreo Office/Social Welfare Local Office.

From the above, it seems as if it would not be unusual for someone to leave a CE scheme with the intention of being on a Jobseekers payment in order to meet one of the BTEA eligibility requirements before the course starts. Your friend should check that he/she meets all the eligibility requirements for BTEA if that is his/her plan.

If a CE scheme is very badly run, no supervision, no work to do etc., it might well be possible to apply for a transfer, through Intreo or Solas or whomever or whatever is running the CE schemes now.
