Pale Foundation(s)

    Hey everyone,

I'm really struggling atm to find a foundation pale enough for the summer. During the winter months I use the palest shade of Revlon Colorstay (combination/oily) and although it's a little darker than my skintone I can get away with it. With the summer now though I find that it looks too heavy and there's an obvious line, even though I blend it as best I can.

Any recommendations? I know there's plenty of older threads on this topic but I feel like I've tried out a lot of the foundations suggested in those threads and none of them have been pale enough. I've tried Max Factor Xperience, Gosh X-Ceptional Wear, Gosh Natural Touch, loads of Maybelline foundations, Bourjois Healthy Mix, Rimmel foundations (all of which were orange) in the lightest colours. Loads more too. The only foundation that ever really suited my skintone perfectly was Maybelline's mineral makeup in the palest shade (the powder version) but they've discontinued it I think.

I'm a student so I can't afford anything more than 20 euro so expensive brands are out the window.

    Help appreciated!

Someone mentioned an Aldi or Lidl foundation for pink toned pale skin on boards.ie yesterday, I think it was in an after hours thread about big brand versus budget brand products... Can't link from phone but can find it in the morning if you fail!

Update: It's an Aldi foundation, people seem to rave about the stuff so might be worth a gamble!

I'm super pale and have pink-toned skin. This is a pretty good colour match. http://www.loreal-paris.co.uk/cosmetics/face/liquid-foundation/rose-ivory.aspx

I've found the Rimmel Match Perfection in Light Porcelain (Shade 010) is great for very pale, pink-toned skin like mine. It's hard to get hold of at times (usually the palest shade that pharmacies stock is the Ivory, which is much too orange-y), but any decent-sized pharmacy or Boots should stock it. It's honestly the best thing I've found in terms of the cheaper brands. Whenever you do get a bit of extra money to splurge, I would highly recommend checking out the YSL Touche Eclat foundation - it's incredible for pale pink tones!

I have found Clinique's 02 Linen in the Supermoisture range really good. I'm sure they do a similar shade in other products. Strangely, I've found it harder to get that shade in Ireland than in the US.. they don't stock it everywhere but are often willing to order it in.

I use bare minerals fairly light

I know you said no expensive brands but the longest lasting & best foundation I've ever used for my pale skin is Estee Lauder Double Wear in Bone - fantastic staying power aswell & because its got such good coverage, you only need the tiniest amount so the bottle lasts for ages!

They will give you a sample to try which you will get a few uses out of so you can try it & see before you buy - the benefits of going with some of the more expensive brands!

Me too and for once I'm not even the palest shade

I haven't tried it myself but I remember Boots advertising something from their No7 range that's supposedly matches your perfect colour, it's a gadget of some sort that they use on your skin to match it. Might be worth a try.

What about garnier light BB cream?

Another vote here for Estee Lauder Double Wear in "Cool Bone". I find it a great match to my pale skin.

+1 for Estee DoubleWear. I use the shade "Shell".

I used to buy Maybelline 24-Hour Superstay in IVORY but it was far too orange for my pale skin.
I then went and tried several different brands but even their palest shades are too dark.
I didn't want to spend too much money either but I got chatting to an Estee Lauder consultant who told me "Shell" would be perfect for me.

She applied some and I was absolutely gobsmacked...it blended and matched perfectly!
She gave me a 10ml sample bottle for free and after using it for two weeks, I was sold.
You only need a little bit..

TIP: Always moisturise before using this foundation; I find it creates an even base and the foundation will glide on better.
It lasts for such a long time so actually you probably won't even spend as much because how long are the high-street brands lasting you?

I know you said money was tight and the Estee Lauder is €35, but if you can afford it, it'll be the best decision you ever made.

The consultants will go through different shades with you to find the right one for you.

One consultant told me DoubleWear is the best selling foundation in the world and I can see why :)

+1 for Double Wear! It is pricey but as other posters have said it lasts for ages! You only need to use a tiny bit. I would ask for a sample and you can see what we mean :)

Mine is Ivory Nude. Which is perfect for the winter...but now I'm getting a little bit of a tan so think I'll go one shade up. Ivory nude is the palest neutral shade, Shell is for pinky tones and Bone is for yellow tones...

I use Double Wear too, although Bone is a tad dark on me, and it's the palest yellow-toned shade. I'm not even that pale, but it takes some blending to get it looking natural. It is a hard-working foundation though, a great bad skin day option.

I'm currently using Clarins Everlasting Foundation in 105 Nude and it's even paler than ELDW Bone, and it's not even the palest shade in the range. It's a little lighter than ELDW but still has great coverage. Very flattering too, and a bit cheaper, at €31.

What about garnier light BB cream?

I'm not really a fan of BB creams because my skin isn't great and the coverage is usually too light. If it was clearer I'd probably go for something like that though!

Thanks for all the suggestions everybody, there's a good few there! I've noted them all down and I'm heading into town this morning anyway so I'll spend a bit of time seeing which one suits best. :)

I use bobbi browns alabaster and find it matches my skin almost perfectly. MAC have a NW10 that's quite nice on but seems to be a little darker than the bobbi brown one.

I currently use Clarins Everlasting foundation in Ivory. It's the best one i've found yet for my pale skin. All other brands i've tried have been orange even in the lightest shade.

I like Laura Mercier Silk Creme foundation in Soft Ivory. Definitely one of the paler foundations I've used.

Urban Decay Naked Skin in 0.5 or 1 are also good for Irish skin.
