    Hi there!

I got into Maynooth to do the MH121 (Int. Dev.) degree.

International Development was a new course last year so there has only been one academic year completed so far.

I've done it and I really enjoyed it. You cover bits of politics, economics, sociology, philosophy and much more. If you are looking for something interesting that covers a lot of different disciplines then this subject is really great. The lecturers are sound as well.
The module on ethics was my favourite.

I also did Geography and Anthropology and these subjects fit well with International Development.
Others do law, business, economics etc. and it seems to fit well with these subjects too.

There were about 70 in our class so you get to know most of the people over the year.

If there's anything specific that you want to know give me a shout.

    Regards,

    Will.

    Hiya!

I replied yesterday but my post was blocked because I added 2 links for you to check out.

The course is designed to cater specifically to people who want to do just that.

There's an open day on in the college this Saturday and one of the lecturers is giving a talk at 1pm if you're interested.

    Regards,
    Will.

Thinking of taking ID this academic year with anthropology and Spanish.
I got in last yeAR but had to defer in early October due to a house fire and the stress of dealing with insurers, builders, living temp accom 2 buses and 1 train away from campus. Happily back in house. I'm attending the open day tomorrow so will definitely check out that lecture at 1PM. Last year I chose English as part of the arts degree , but think these 3 are a better fit. Thanks for the info.

Hi Zef! Sorry to hear about your setback.

I had considered doing Spanish as well before I started but decided against it purely because I reckoned I could learn it in my own time but I never quite got around to it. I totally agree, those subjects fit well together. Enjoy the lecture tomorrow! :)

I got into college as a mature student so I didn't have to worry about points.

As far as I'm aware, once you get in you can switch to single honors in 2nd year provided you do well enough in your exams. So for example, you could get the points to do general arts and then pick 3 subjects that you like and provided that you do well you can change over from general arts into single honors from one of your 3 subjects.

My degree is currently called MH121 (International Development) but I am going to switch to double honors and keep it 50/50 with Geography.

I hope that explains it well enough for you.
