Garmin Connect Website Updated

I did a quick search and found nothing on this.

I logged into Garmin Connect just now and the website has been updated as indicated a few months back. It's indicated in a pop-up as the 'Modern' version.

It looks a lot slicker and now has segments and a few other improvements. On the face of it, it's not as good as Strava but it does look good. I'm not sure of interaction with non Garmin devices.

Has anyone else seen this and if so, what's you impressions.

I'm going to play with it for while and see what else I can spot.

Here's an image from an activity screen in case anyone hasn't seen it yet.

I've seen it. The syncing thing seems alright.
    I'm still using strava though

the new upload app stopped recognizing my garmin so uninstalled and using old site to upload data

seems like garmin have broken the main thing on the new site for me (really really sick of software companies doing this)

edit: thats the old screen isnt it ?

It's the new screen (at least it is to me).

The segments are listed above the speed/elevation graphs - that wasn't there for me before.

Apologies but I zoomed out on the screen grab to avoid a massive image.

I use Garmin Connect but mainly as a backup to Strava. The Garmin Sync is great. Just plug the Garmin into laptop and 30 seconds or so later the latest activity is synced. No need to log on to any website.

I automatically sink via the 810 and upload and review through Strava

I need to buy a new computer (Mac) as the new plugin isn't supported on osx 10.6.

From what I understood of the mail I received from them, they plan to do away with the manual upload when they do the final cutover to the "modern" version of the site. Right now you can switch to modern and back again but that's only temporary.

I'm not looking forward to the loss of the manual upload, it's my preferred means of uploading and always has been.

They better not do away with it. The auto sync doesn't work on Ubuntu and not a hope am I putting a windows partition in my computer just for the garmin site

You can import manually from the Activities page on the modern layout.

Its part of the industry shift to 24/7 trackers and the site redesign is to facilitate this for Garmin

    I'm in the same boat.
Is there any way to get around this, without buying a new computer?

I'm not very good with computers.
But, I have tried to do that, but it won't allow me to do it.

Your mac might not be compatible with the newer OS. Take a look from the activities page, I'm on a mac using Chrome and I manually upload them from there.

Yeah, my plastic macbook is too old for 10.10 or whatever the latest is. Garmin wants the latest, and I'm damned if garmin is going to force me to upgrade the laptop despite it working perfectly fine for my development and music work.

I thought it a bit rich for Apple to say so, but garmin...

I still use the "old" site and plugin, at least it worked fine for me last Sunday.

I can't get Chrome. Says I need newer than 10.6, which is what, I have.
    I think, I'm Donald Ducked.

I got my garmin to work with 'seeing' it as a usb mass storage device in linux. You might need to search for some updates in your package installer.

Tapiirik is a great site for syncing strava and garmin connect if you have any issues with one of them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭ashleey

Unfortunately, the 'best' way around all of this is a newer garmin with Bluetooth and an iphone, then tapiirik to sync up to strava.

    More gadgets anyone?

I find the new site pure rubbish. It doesn't sync very often, it's hard to find the manual upload page and it keeps trying to offer me some language upgrade I don't want. That's on google/windows 7.

btw - has any one ever seen a segment on a route?

3 segments show for the route in the OP but that's the only activity of mine that has any segments.

    I tried to create a segment but I can't figure it out.......yet.

Regarding the issue of getting the site to load on the Chrome. It appears if any of Chrome extensions block any of the site trackers associated with the main garmin site, then the site will not load. Very poor form.

I use adblock and it wouldn't load the site but once I stopped adblock from running on garmin.connect.com, it loads fine.

I find that Garmin Connect is brutal slow on my machine (Windows 7 and pretty fresh). It's the same on all browsers - can take up to a minute to load a page (I have slow broadband but not that slow). Anyone else find this - I couldn't find any solution on-line.

Have you tried apple website to see if your hardware can take the update? https://www.apple.com/ie/osx/specs/
