    HI, All

I'm a quite handy when it comes to DIY at home and... well anywhere
We are removing our outside kitchen door and replacing it with a wall and window.
The kitchen has already one window, so the height of the new one would be the same as the existing. Obviously the width would be same as the width of the door.

As I will build that myself from scratch I would like to ask for an advice the more experience ones on here.

Kitchen door measurements (measured from inside the house):
    w750mm/h2070mm

    The window will sit at:
    1050mm off the ground.

    That leaves me with:

    w750mm/h1020mm (internal measurements)...

How wide/high window should I buy?
I guess I'd have to get a no obligation quote from someone in Laois area. I'm based in Portarlington.

    The brick wall...

    750mm/1050mm
Grey bricks, how many should i get.
Cement/sand mix - is 25kg enough or more...
Two vertical layers and space between or just one?

The space under the window will be covered with floor kitchen units, making it kinda U shape kitchen.

So... this is my little worry now. Hopefully we get it done by end of July (well, if I start it the end of July of course lol)

Well... Just to close the thread.
A complete rookie with a bit of a advise here and there.

Removing the door was a messy, messy stuff to do. Decided to save the front reveals and removed the frame from inside. It was not easy with all the fasteners on either side, but eventually got it removed. As I have never done that before, I did not manage to save the door frame, it went for burning.

Got the window from abroad. Worked out twice! cheaper even after the massive delivery charge paid... It was the perfect size, just slotted in nice and easy, leaving me 1cm each side to get the foam in. Levelling, positioning was easy to do.

Brick work. Used only 8 cavity blocks. Cut the to size. Laying bricks was an easy job to learn. Got a friend of mine to help with cement/sand mix.

Window seal... Here I should have laid a sheet of nylon under it before fitting, but this side of the house does not get much of a rain. I hope it won't hold dampness...
I tried to trim the seal with a grinder. It is not meant to be done that way. So I ended up cutting it straight all the way.

All I have left now is dashing the outside wall and plastering the inside wall.

I was very proud of myself as with no experience managed to do a relatively good job.

    :D
