Glue tiles onto Kitchen Cupboard

I'm recycling Aunties kitchen , the solid oak doors are a great addition to mothers kitchen as they both got the same guy to fit the same kitchens 30 years ago.
With the leftovers, I want to turn two wall cupboards into a shoe stand , I have left-over tiles to cover top and sides of cupboard , perfect fit.
What glue do I need, small pack ? Can I set the tiles side by side on the top and shelves without spaces? as I don't want to learn about grouting. I have 2 big tiles that will hide the sides .
If the tiling is not a good idea , I will just have to paint the top and sides:(
