I got the new social welfare card two weeks ago but lost the letter it came in. I still have the card but I need to activate it. What number do I ring?

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    Call 1890 927 999.

I'm not sure if that's the number on your letter, but it's the Client Identity Services office, so if it's not them they'll know where to send you.

The number to call to activate your card is on the back of your card 1890-837000

There is an alternative number, it worked for me just a few minutes ago:

01 7043000 and ask for the 'Central Control Section'.

Those 1890 numbers can be very expensive, especially, if you have a mobile phone only.

Sorry I'm not sure really where to put this.

I've what is described as a SAFE appointment for my new public services card coming up shortly. What does this consist of?

I have all the documents listed to bring with me. I just want to know what it is like, does it take the 45 minutes mentioned in their letter and how detailed is this registration procedure.

    Thanks.

Usually takes about 10 minutes. Nothing to be afraid of. They will update your records, if required, take your picture and explain how to activate your card.
Having all the documents with you speeds up the process.

Hi, the direct number to activate your card is 071 9672 334, otherwise you'll be on hold for ages and the 1890 number can be expensive!

If you have your passport, birth cert and proof of address you'll spend more time waiting than the meeting itself. Just hand everything to them, have your picture taken and pick 2 security questions. They'll tell you you'll get the card in the post and you have to call a number to activate it. They can give you a temporary card until you get it as well.
