Tefl teaching Ireland 2014

Hi, bit of a silly post. I'm a secondary teacher currently on my hols. I've an interview in Dublin this week for a job at summer camp for teenagers starting next month.

I've years of experience doing this in the summer etc but I don't have a 'proper' ACLES recognised Cert. I said on the application form I did though. Just wondering how likely it is I'll be asked to produce it. I'm usually happy to embellish for interviews but probably wouldn't like to tell a bare-faced lie.

In other words, is it worth fibbing about it in the interview or should I save myself the DART fair and an early rise?!

    Hey there,

A few years ago I was working for MLI in Athlone. We had an ACELS inspection and a teacher who had tefl but not ACELS was dismissed that day. As a secondary teacher you can do a cheaper weekend course to get acels recognised. I think ATC do this, at least my sister did it with them years ago. Hope this is helpful!

Hi- thanks that's really helpful! I'd never heard of this but I just googled it and will make some enquiries today. Thanks a million!

    Hey.

I am also a secondary school teacher and I have spent a few summers working for summer camps in Dublin. Yes, you are asked to produce a copy of the cert. The first year I worked in Dublin there was also an inspector floating around.

I couldn't recommend doing the CELT course more. It took about five weeks to complete, so if you can get a space on a course now, you could do it in August. That's how I did it. Check to see if the Centre of English Studies in Dame Street still do it. I hope this is helpful. :)
