    Hi all

This might be of interest to some....

I spotted that Aldi are stocking wet-suits (short length) for Men and Women from Sunday 22nd June - Link (thinking I might pick up one as I hope to take up surfing at some stage this year).

I'm no expert in this area, so not sure if it's a bargain in the grand scheme of things (i.e. would you be better off spending a little more to get a 'true bargain' in terms of product longevity, fit, comfort, etc.) - perhaps others can advise.

Here's an old thread which discusses the pro's and con's of buying a wet-suit from aldi that may be of some use :)

    Cheers

Edit - Aldi will also be stocking Aqua shoes @4.99 from the 22/06/14 - Link

2.5mm thick will not keep you warm in Irish water for scuba diving but might work for surfing.

For comparison, I got the lidl full wet suit with shorty a couple of years ago. That was with the intention of kayaking in the sea which I never did but I since took up scuba diving and even in December in 9c water, that suit has kept me nice and warm. It was a pegaso brand so if Lidl counters with more of those, grab them asap.

Just for the record. I used one of these suits surfing in Kerry on a hot day and I froze my bollicks off. 2.5mm and shorty style suits DO NOT suit Irish weather. Highly impractical.

you'd need a full 3mm suit for surfing and even then as it's only going to do you for the summer months as you'd need a better quality seamwise suit for the winter and thicker. shorty wetsuits in Ireland = hypothermia aside from 5 minute dips.

Bunch of big girls blouses up there :p

There's people swimming without any wetsuit every day of the year in the Irish waters!

@OP - this is indeed very good value for money and perfect for swimming / surfing in this country in the summer months. I have one myself...

Everyday swimming is a different kettle of fish though. I swim a lot of the year and I'm fairly cold-hardy, but there are physiological changes that come with daily cold water swimming. Your body gets good at the cold.

I wear a lidl shorty in summer to keep the sun off and for a little bouyancy, but it's not warm.

The buoyancy is a good point, forgot about that. Makes a significant difference alright.
