Flashing Powertrain warning light on 1.4 TDCi Fiesta van

Was driving home a little earlier - about 35 miles into a 40 mile drive - hit a moderately steep incline and the powertrain warning light started flashing. I lost power for the most part (from reading the owners manual, this kicks in to save the engine?) and just continued on sluggishly for 200 meters - until I could safely get it off the road. Temp. gauge didn't suggest that there was an issue - was around the 60 mark - only a quarter of the way up.

I left it be for 15 minutes. Then started it up - and drove it as gently as I could for the last 5 miles home. No warning light appeared during this time - but I never gave it any serious welly.

Have 40 mile commute to do tomorrow (80 mile round trip). Should I be worried about this? Anything I can do to troubleshoot it?

Since that one occasion, no sign of that flashing Powertrain warning light. Occasionally, when I stick my foot on the accelorator, I find it to be sluggish or jerky rather than a smooth pickup...if that makes any sense. Only notice it now and again - just wondering if that had any relevance to the other thing...

think you need to see if any fault codes are stored, you have checked oil and water levels, wonder if pedal sensor on accelerator gives issues and what you press is not acknowledged.

    Could be EGR?

FWIW pedal sensor on those normally flashes the glowplug light.
