Bucharest it is so in 2 weeks time.
We're doing the Dracula tour in and around Brasov but then we have 4 days in the capital.
Have some friends there but will need to entertain ourselves mostly.
We will of course do Ceausescus' big mad palace but I'd love some recommendations from some folk that have been there before....

Any help would be great :)

    Regards

    HB

Thinking of going there for a few days myself. How did you find it?

    Amazing country. Truly breathtakingly beautiful.
People are great too, lot like the Irish in a lot of ways.
We hired a car and dRove to Transylvania and went crazy exploring castles, citadels etc... the whole Dracula thing. Be warned though. They drive like they don't want to live.
Bucharest is a mixed city....medieval v Communist v Modern. A very very cool city.I guess we were lucky as we had some friends to meet up with but I reckon you cold manage to do most things without a guide etc. Most of the people under 30 speak pretty good english.
I can recommend a hotel and a very good resturaunt if you want. PM me for details :)

Just booked for a weekend in December.

Any of you folks got recommendations?

    Hey
The People's Palace is defo worth a visit... Nicolae Ceausescu's palace. Second biggest building in the world.
Plently of nice parks and restaurants around.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough

Metro is the best and easiest way to get around the city. An open top bus tour is a good idea to see most of the sites and then return to them on you own time.
If you can rent a car quite cheaply but like I've stated earlier , they drive like lunatics over there.

Enjoy dude, any questions, just lemmie know

Yeah I've driven abroad a few times, Seychelles, Corfu, US and Canada.

India and Turkey are on my list of places I have no desire to ever get behind the wheel in though.

Bucharest in sub zero temperatures is definitely on there too.

I only booked it on a whim last night, so haven't done much planning yet. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions once I do.

Flights for myself and the wife were €160 return, hotel €180 for 3 nights including breakfast. It's ranked 7 out of 159 hotels too so hopefully a nice spot.

Is eating etc very cheap? Neither of us are drinkers so cost of booze isn't an issue but we like our grub!

Thats a decent bargain you got there.
    Food is extremely cheap
Hotel will depend on the area you're in.
The more central the better I've been told

4 Star and fairly central from what I can see, but good travel links too.

    Looks like an ideal spot.
Short walk to the Palace too if the weather was good.
    Nice find.
If you like your grub, defo seek out the place I posted above
