Ok, so i have been giving the all clear from the wife for a trip to France next year for about 7/8 days of cycling. I know its a bit early to be planning but i want to do L'etape du Tour and registration for that is in November so that's why i am looking for ideas now in case i don't happen to get a place in the L'etape.

I've plenty of questions so any help would be nice.
Is the l'etape worth doing or should i just do my own thing while cycling the alps/pyrenees?
Who to fly with?where and with climbs close by?
Doing the l'tape means going in July. Is there a better time(less busy/cheaper)?

Ill have more questions later i'm sure so any help would be nice

The Etape route changes every year...too early to plan for that now.

The Marmotte is the same route every year, and the Start/finish is the same place, so easier to do solo.

I know the route is not announced till later in the year.
I've looked at the Marmotte but i've seen it can also hard to get a place, that is why i'm looking for other options away from sportives
