NASA is testing a low density supersonic decelerator (LDSD) over Hawaii that looks like a flying saucer. It's intended to bring heavy payloads from space to the surface of Mars, going from supersonic to subsonic. The testing site is the US Navy's Pacific Missile Range Facility on the island of Kauai. They have already had a couple cancellations for weather reasons. It rains almost daily in the Hawaiian islands. Not sure when the next test is rescheduled. Shortly I would assume.
